Plan Ahead to Get Ahead!
If you are starting a new home business or already have one ,you need to plan. You need to get your spouse involved with the planning even though they will not be in the business with you. This will save you some hassles later on if they understand early on the time and money you will be investing into this new business.
Make sure you keep a written log of all of your plans. A good business plan shows all of your business expenses and revenues. Be prepared for more expenses then you expect and plan for less revenue then you expect. Use a big calendar to mark dates of the beginning and ending of each new activity.Promote you business!! Plan for this ! Figure out what avenues of promotion you will be using. Plan for the cost.
Plan ahead for any trade or craft fairs. This is a great cost effective way to promote your business locally and build your network. This is an easy way to build down lines if you are into direct sales.
Learn as much as you can about your customers. Find out who are your best customers, where they live, their ages, and etc. This will help you in deciding the best promotions to use to reach your core customers.
Test different types of promotions. Flyers and business cards are a low cost way to promote your business. Decide if you should use newspaper ads or yellow pages. Would it be cost worthy to have catalogs printed up if it is your own product.
Make sure you have planned for any problems that might come your way. What will you do if a delivery is late? What if a item is not available? Always have a backup plan.
And ALWAYS be prepared for change. Stay up to date on current trends. Keep your promotions up to date. A great way to keep all of your customers aware of any updated cheaply and fast is to start an e- newsletter . You could also have a webpage made so that customers can contact you with any questions or orders.
These are just a few questions you need to plan for and ask your-self.If you plan well and stick to it, than your home business should do very well.

How many people base success on the outward measures, but if you were to look deeper it would be evident there is much that is missing? What I now know in my mid-fifties is that true success consists of more than what we can achieve financially or materially. Succeeding only on the material level can often leave other areas of a person’s life completely out of balance. Wrapping up Business at Year End

If you are a home based business owner you need to be looking at your last year's business now. Take a look back on all of your business and get all of your stuff together before the year ends.
1. Looking at this year's activity and make sure you've identified your most profitable customer - profile the characteristics that help you identify similar customers in the marketplace so that you develop your message specifically to target the customers with the characteristics you've identified as those of your most profitable customer.
In my promotional products business I want relational customers vs. transactional customers. All of my marketing and sales efforts are designed to attract the client that is looking for a trustworthy, reliable promotional products distributor with great ideas. The customer that wants a cheap transaction with no loyalty on either side of the table is probably not my customer and I'm not offended when they don't want to buy from me. As I've been doing business over the last 15 years I've identified the transactional customer as a time waster for me. I end up doing a lot of research and servicing of an account with very little profit.
2. Establish or fine tune the marketing message to the prospect you've identified with your profile as most likely to be your most profitable customer. Look at everything you are doing, saying and printing about and for your business - Is your message clearly spoken to the target customer?
3. Identify the most effective activity to reach your prospects and schedule that activity so that it happens consistently. If you bring customers in by running ads in your local newspaper then schedule them for the entire year. You get a better rate if you contract for a years worth of advertising.
If the activity that brings you business is your weekly email newsletter then sit down and plan your editorial calendar for the year and begin to write the articles now. You can always edit or add to them before you send them out for those written far in advance. By using autoresponders you can schedule the email newsletter well in advance.
If the activity that builds your customer base is face to face selling then you need to be sure that you are calling on customers to schedule appointments. You should identify how many prospects you need to call to get appointments, and how many appointments you need to create sales for your product.
4. Understand your sales cycle. Whether or not you are running ads, sending email or scheduling appointments you need to understand what happens and how long it takes to finally close the sale. The rule of thumb is "the more costly the investment the longer the sales cycle." No matter what you sales cycle is you need to plan your most productive activity to steadily continue to draw in new prospects while you're finalizing sales for other customers.
I have a few small business owners who ask if they should take the time to do this kind of review of their business plan every year. YES, in fact, do a mini version of this every week to be sure that you're on track and making money consistently. Your income will be consistent if you've
* Identified your customer
* Established your most effective message
* Identified the most productive activity
* Understand your sales cycle
Take the time to do this review before the end of this year and give yourself the gift of more business next year.

WAHM TIP OF THE DAY

Tip for the day: MAKE SURE YOU ALWAYs HAVE A NOTEBOOK NEARBY SO YOU CAN WRITE DOWN IDEAS AND THOUGHTS AS THEY COME TO MIND!!!! For us bloggers and writers a blank notebook is priceless. I am always writing in mine with ideas and plans. I also write list of what I need to do and goals.
A notebook is also a great way to keep track of what you have done already. This way you do not write the same thing twice or submit the same article over and over. I can get pretty forgetful so if I did not have a notebook for keeping my thoughts straight I would not be able to blog or write. I am just too busy and the notebook keeps everything where I need it.
I use the type of notebook that has folders built in so if I see an article or project somewhere else I can cut it out and put it in my notebook.

Work At Home Space
You will need a space at home to work if you are going to be working at home. With this you can be creative and flexible. If your home does not have a regular office space than you can look around your home for other spaces that could be used for an office.
For example:
The attic, basement, a walk-in-closet, corner of your living room with a privacy screen, a hallway, the garage, a garden shed, or a laundry room.
Once you have decided where your office is going to be you can then decide what tools you will need. You will need a desk and/ or work space, a computer, a phone line just for your business (?), good lighting and basic office supplies.
Do not blow your budget though. Just get the bare essentials to start out with and then as your business grows you can gain more supplies.
No matter how small your work area , it should be a place where you can actually get some work done in. Let everyone in the house know that it is your work area and that they have to respect that.

Thursday Thirteen#17 - 13 Steps to Successful Blogging

I had such a busy week that I am using an article that someone else wrote for this Thursday Thirteen. It is a great one that I wanted to share with all of you.
13 Steps to Successful Blogging
Blogs can be a very marketable and very profitable tool if used correctly. Profiting from blogs is just a matter of grabbing the attention of an audience and not doing any actual salesmen selling. In this article you will learn the 13 most essential steps to successful blogging.
1) Where to start?
You should begin your blog with a free blog hosting service such as Journal Home or Blogger. Starting with a free blog hosting service allows you to begin blogging instantly without having any advance knowledge of scripts, hosting, or programming. It allows you to focus on your content and not the internal maintenance of the blog. The best benefit of starting with a free service is, in the case your blog doesn't become successful you do not lose any money or are you left holding the bill. The great thing about a blog is that they are organized in chronological order, your latest entry is displayed first. When your blog traffic grows greatly and you are ready to upgrade to your own domain then you can simply make your last blog entry the announcement of your "move". Simply add a last entry stating that your blog has "moved" and type the new blog URL address. Which directs visitors to your new blog site, keeping your following, without a major inconvenience to anyone. Upgrade as you need to...but only when you need to!
2) Niche
A niche is a targeted product, service, or topic. You should first decide on a product, service, or topic which interest you. Choose an area which you can enthusiastically write about on a daily basis. You can use keyword research services like Google Zeitgeist or Yahoo! Buzz Index to find popular searched topics. It does NOT matter if your topic is popular as long as there is a audience for your topic and the topic is precisely focused then your blog should be successful. Anything can be considered a niche as long as it has a target audience no matter how large or how small the audience is. A blog about your cat can be a niche or a blog about the species of the cat family can be a larger niche market, if there are people who are interested in hearing about your cat or the species of the cat family...you can even choose to build your audience for a market which an audience does not exist, but first you must build your blog.
3) Update Daily (nothing less)
This step is a must and not a suggestion. Updating your blog daily not only keeps your blog more interesting to readers, but it also gives your blog fresh content on a day to day making it more appealing to search engines. Not updating your blog on an occasional holiday or one day here and there is understandable to most, but missing days at a time or weeks is unacceptable and will most likely result in your blog being unsuccessful. To keep your blog traffic and retain your visitors interest it is a must to update your blog daily with multiple entries. You should try to update your blog everyday with at least 3 or more daily entries. The best way to accomplish this is to set aside 1-2 hours a day for tending to your blog and adding new entries. It may even be wise to schedule a set time which you dedicate to your blog each day. Give yourself work hours and treat your blog as a job, what happens if you don't come to work for days or weeks...you lose money or worse you get fired! Same applies here...if you don't update your blog for days or weeks you'll lose visitors.
4) Traffic
It's no secret. You must have traffic to profit from blogs. There are numerous ways to build traffic. Paid advertising, free advertising, viral marketing, search engine marketing, RSS/XML feeds, and word-of-mouth. You should always use your blog URL address in the signature of your email, forum discussions, message boards, or any other communication media. You should submit your blog URL address to search engines and blog directories. You should submit your RSS/XML URL feed to blog ping services like Technorati, Ping-O-Matic, and Blogdigger. You should confidently share your blog with family, friends, co-workers, associates, and business professionals when it relates. Many blogs can be considered as a collection of articles, for this purpose you should submit your blog entries (those that are valuable and lengthy articles) to content syndicators like GoArticles.com or ArticleCity.com. Once submitted your articles can be picked up and published by others. The trick is to make sure you include your Blog URL address in the "About the Author" passage. What this does is create link popularity and backlinks for your blog, when someone picks up your article from the syndication then publish the article on their website the "About the Author" passage is included with each publication and the link you included is followed, crawled, and indexed by search engines. Imagine if your article is popular enough or controversial enough to produce 10,000 publications across the web. The search engines is bound to find your site in no time with that many publications and credit you a authority on the topic, in return increasing your rank on search engines. The small effort of writing a well written article is rewarding. You should try to write at least 1 full length article every week for syndication and submit your article to at least 10 article syndicators.
5) Track Your Blog
How do you know if your blog has traffic? Just because no one is leaving comments doesn't mean your blog isn't growing. Many visitors do not leave comments but they are returning visitors. I know it sounds crazy but with blogs people are more interested in what "you" have to say! Many visitors do not comment their 1st, 2nd, or 3rd time. Some do not comment at all, but are active daily visitors.
Tracking your blog does not have to be overly sophisticated usually a simple free page counter like StatCounter.com or Active Meter will do the trick. Install (copy/paste) the code into the html of your blog template and start tracking your visitors. Its better to use a service which gives you advanced traffic analysis, such as keyword tracking information, referral information, and search engine information. Visitors, returning visitors, and unique visitors should be standard for any page counter service you choose.
6) Listen to Your Audience
When using the proper page counter you should begin to see how others are finding your blog and if through search engines then which keywords are being used to find your blog. If constantly your blog is being found by 1 or more keywords then focus your blog around those keywords to make it even more powerful. When writing entry titles and entries use the keywords as often as possible while keeping the blog legible and interesting.
7) Multiple blogs
Use multiple blogging accounts to attract more people. This means you should have a blog with JournalHome.com, Blogger.com, LiveJournal.com, Blog-City.com, tBlogs.com, etc. The more blog accounts the better. You can copy/paste from 1 blog to all others. Having different blog accounts is like having a publication in different newspapers. This enables you to attract more visitors and this also increases the chance that 1 of your blogs will be in the search engine results for your focused keywords.
8) Short & Concise
Aside from the lengthy article a week for syndication and publication your blog entries should be short & concise (if you can help it). Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule and you have no choice but to blog lengthy entries, but try to avoid this as much as possible. You do not want your blog entries to become hours of reading. Visitors like to easily find information and skim through your entries. It is good to be detailed and provide useful information, but do not include useless information or run away sentences that veer away from your topic.
9) Digital Art
Try to include non-advertising graphics, pictures, photos, and art in your blog entries. Not too much. Once a week is fine. Graphics can sometimes bring your blog to life. Of course, the content of the blog is the most important aspect and you do not want to overshadow your content with graphics, but displaying graphics can add a bit of spice to the blog. Be choosy about your graphics and make sure they fit your entry topic. You should add content with the graphic, at least a caption. Original graphics, photos, pictures, and art is recommended.
10) Keep it Personal
A blog is most successful when it is kept personal. Try to include personal experiences which relates to the topic of your blog entry. Stay away from the business style of writing. Write with a more personal style and use first-person narratives. Do not write any of your entries as sales letters, instead share product reviews and personal endeavors.
11) Interact With Your Visitors
You now have the traffic you deserve. You should begin interacting with your visitors. Create a regular theme such as: "Monday Money Tip" or "Picture of the Week" which entices your readers to look forward to each week.
Give your readers advance notice about a product, service, or topic which you are going to review and then talk about later. If the President was scheduled to give a speech then in your blog you should state that you "will discuss the speech and give your opinion after the speech airs. Comments will be appreciated".
Try your best to find exclusive information that not many have. Do not disclose any confidential or secret information which is deemed illegal or can potentially get you into trouble, but try to get the scoop before everyone else does. Such as: If your blog was about Paris Hilton (the socialite) and you had a blog entry about "Paris Hilton Getting Married" then it would be interesting to your readers if you had a actual picture of Paris Hilton engagement ring. Give your best effort to dig and search the internet for exclusive information and you will possibly come up with something useful. Your readers will appreciate this and they show their appreciation through word-of-mouth referrals. Imagine how many readers will tell their friends, family, and others about information they only can find at your blog.
12) Make Money
Once your blog has gained some real momentum and your blog traffic is increasing then it is time to start thinking about turning your traffic into profit. You should use contextual advertising, like Google Adsense or Chitika. Contextual advertising is usually text links which use the content of your blog to publish targeted ads on your blog. The payout is usually based on a pay-per-click model, meaning for ever click an ad receives you are paid a small percentage of the profits. In addition to contextual advertising it is good to also use graphical advertising such as: BlogAds.com, Amazon.com, MammaMedia, or General Sponsored Advertising.
13) You're a Professional
You're a professional now! What are you still doing with that free blog hosting service? It is time to upgrade to a domain hosted solution. You need to get a web host and choose a domain name for your blog then check its availability. Select the blogging software you wish to use, such as: Squarespace.com, WordPress.org, MovableType.org, etc. When you have your new blog domain setup and ready for traffic then it is time for you to announce your move on all your previous blog accounts. Your last entry to the blog should be a "move" announcement. The title should be "Moved" and the blog entry should state something like "Old Blog has been moved to New Blog please follow and bookmark this link for future reference: http://www.YourNewBlogDomainName.com". This way all returning visitors and new readers should not have any problem finding your new blog domain.
At the level of a professional blogger you may want to team up with 1 or more other bloggers. This will create a more interesting and more powerful blog. The old saying "two heads is better than one", more authors mean more advertising and exposure because each author will have a vested interest in the blog. The idea of a team blog is to make it profitable and rewarding for all authors, while continuing to target the blog topic and keeping the blog interesting for visitors.
Following these blogging techniques should make your blogging experience much more rewarding. There is no guarantee that your blog will become popular or a household name, but the effort should at least put you one step closer. Making money online is not an overnight experience like many may think, but making money online is definitely a foreseeable possibility. As well, growing popularity on the web is not an overnight experience, but through time, dedication, and persistence you will be rewarded with all the royalties of blogging.

I just read about this easy way to get more traffic to you blog. I read about it on this Teen Money Makers blog and decided to check it out. You sing up for a free account at RssHugger and then you can add your blog url and soon be getting more traffic. It used to have a fee, but now it is free to register. Which makes it a really great way for bloggers to get more traffic. After your blog is accepted , you get your own page that you feed is on. Which is pretty cool. Then you let everyone know your link to that RssHugger page and the more people you get to go there , the higher up you get in the Top100 Rss Feeds list. The list resets every month.
I really think that for anyone who blogs that they should look into joining this. It seems like it is a very good way to socialize and get your blog noticed.

Why Moms Make The Best Entrepreneurs?

More and more moms are starting their own businesses. I think that moms make the best Entrepreneurs for a few reasons.
Moms can think on their feet and get things done. We are always having to come up with easy solutions to household problems.
Moms are multi-taskers. We have full days getting the house clean , taking care of kids, keeping hubby happy, shopping, cooking, and so on. Anyone who can do all of that every single day should have no problem running their own business , which has a ton of multi-tasking involved.
Moms are frugal and can come up with a lot of money saving ways to bootstrap a business.
Moms are caring! We show love to our families all of the time and our customers know that we will show care to our product and selling. Or whatever business we start.
Moms are creative. We have to be to be able to keep a houseful of little kids busy AND happy. Take your creative side and start a home based business from a craft or an idea that you came up with for a toy you made your little one. We moms have a special way of thinking unconventionally.
Most of us moms also have to take care of all of the book keeping and bill paying of the household , so we already have general knowledge of this to be able to carry it over to our small business book keeping.
Since most of us who want to be work at home moms are already stay at home moms, we already have the flexibility and the freedom to get started on out home based small business.
Us moms are always involved in every thing that needs done at home and will carry that over to our home based small business.
Us moms are very good at listening to others. We are able to do more and talk less.
We are able to ask how others are feeling about something and then act on it.
We never take anyone for granted.
Moms are just natural leaders and teachers. This comes in handy with a home based small business. You are most likely going to be starting this home based business venture on your own and need to be able to take the lead and be able to get out and really work at it.
Moms always find ways to do things better and easier.
Moms are very resourceful.
We have perseverance.
Moms gain a lot of patience with having a family and household to take care of. This comes in handy when you are starting out with your new business. It might take you a while to notice any profit from your business and you need patience and perseverance to get you through that hard times until you start reaping the rewards.
Moms are able to see their vision through to the end. We focus our eyes on the vision on how we want something to be and we work towards it.
In both motherhood and business you are working towards goals. It is so much easier for moms to start a small business because they already have experience with working with others and working towards goals.
If you are a mom who has always wanted to start their own business this is the time to do it. You can start out the new year with a new business. Are you a mom who has what it takes to start your own home based small business than Make that your New Year's Resolution.
Leave your MOM Blog link in the comments here so everyone can see how you as a mom are working towards your goal...........

Some businesses need only a few good customers , others need many, and most need more than they have now. A business that continues to grow is a prosperous one. Whether your business is a new one or a well established one, here are a few tips to expand your customer list.
Create a plan or goal. Say you want to end the year with 50 more good customers you need to plan on how you will get them.
If you need to contact your customers by phone make sure you are doing it at a time when they will be least busy. Or have that be one of the things you find out about them in the beginning ~ "What are the best times for me to call you?".
Be sure to reach out to businesses that might allow you to leave some of your flyers, catalogs, or business cards in their waiting areas. Businesses like beauty shops, barbers, laundries, etc.
If you have a business that is geared towards babies than keep an eye out in the local paper for newborns. If you have a business that might be geared towards marriage then keep and eye out in your local paper for the engagement announcements. The list can go on and on ,just use your brain and the local newspaper.
Keep careful track of all of your prospects. When they become a customer put their info in the customer file.
Always ask your customers for referrals. They can suggest you to others also.

This Proves That We All Learn Something New Every Day!!
I noticed this morning that I had a link coming into this blog from Marketing Whore and I was like what the heck is that? Why would they be linking to me? So I checked it out and they had wrote about my blog and one of my blog post. Well I could have been upset, but, like the title of this post says -- You learn something new everyday!!
Hey!! I never thought of it like that! They are right. But I still think that it could be a niche and a USP. Although this is the first time I have ever heard the term, USP. I guess maybe I came across to some of you as some kind of expert, but I am just a working at home mom who is learning along the way just like everyone else is. Which as that post proves , we all learn something new everyday. I hope that the stuff that I write helps all of us. Even if it helps others by having someone else point out what I have wrote is wrong or not to the point.
So I hope that I keep learning something new everyday!

Be the next work-at-home success story.
An Investment That Paid Off
Karyn Martin was
cautious about launching her freelance career online, but she soon
got results:
"I
remember the days when I dreamed of being a freelancer," she says.
"The word seemed magical to me somehow. Romantic, almost. Now, after
having actually been a freelancer for a while, the scales have been
lifted from my eyes and I have seen the light. You pay for being able
to manipulate your time. You pay by working more, working harder, and
- hopefully - working smarter. But what you get in return is
priceless. Now I can call the shots about when I work, for whom I
work, and how much I make."
One day, Karyn decided she was no longer willing to commute in
smog-laden traffic to sit in a cubicle for eight hours, come home,
eat, sleep, wake up, and then do it all over again. Going through the
same routine, day after day, week after week , only to wake up one day
old and tired - wondering how life might have been if she'd had the
guts to go it alone.
So she decided to become a freelancer - but how would she find work? She
had spent endless hours surfing the 'net, signing up with one
freelance site after another. Yet there was an incredible amount of
competition. She never seemed to win any bids, and was adamant about
not lowering her hourly rate.
"Then I discovered Freelance Work Exchange," she says. "I had heard
"don't pay to work!" repeatedly, and I was too poor to risk getting
scammed, but I took a chance one day when I was flush and sent twenty
bucks to gain access to the Freelance Work Exchange Professional
Edition.
"Since then, I've edited a sales letter, a follow-up letter, an
11-page Web site, and a brochure. I'm 'on call' to do pinch-hit
proofreading for a medical newsletter editor in Florida while he's on
vacation, sick, etc. And I've landed a gig editing a new Canadian
magazine coming out this fall. All this from taking a $20 chance on
Freelance Work Exchange."
Of course, it helped to send prospects a few previous work samples
she'd had the presence of mind to scan and save on disk. Also, since
she has been 'in the business' for more than five years, she has a
fairly good résumé with some experience to back up the claims, along
with a strong list of references.
"For every one of you out there feeling a little discouraged, and
especially for those of you on the verge of throwing in the towel, I'm
here to tell you this. There may not be a Santa Claus, but there is a
place to find work without paying some ridiculous "transaction fee" or
never knowing whether or not the projects are 'fresh' - and even the
name is easy to remember - Freelance Work Exchange."

Goal Buddies

If you are like me and sometimes have trouble reaching your goals than maybe you need a "goal buddy"! This is someone that will keep you honest about your goal and where you stand. Here are some things to look for in a goal buddy.
You need to seek a like-minded "buddy". They need to share the same type of interest and be in similar careers. Since you are reading this blog ,you are most likely a work at home mom or dad so your "goal buddy" needs to be a work at home mom or dad, too.
You should "meet" every so often to share where you each are in your goals. This will keep you from procrastinating.
Agree with each on what the rules are. Will you talk every week or month? Will you talk by phone or email?
Make sure you are honest about what your goals are.
Be open with all of your support and information with your "goal buddy". For example: You are a direct seller for a party plan company and you know someone in their area ,maybe you could get them in contact with that person so they could have a party!
Report to each other your progress. This way you can keep track of what you want to improve on. For each goal your "buddy" has ask for a regualar progress report by email. You can share with other what goals you have reached or are close to reaching.
A "goal buddy" can also help you get through all of the bad times too. By giving you support and advice on how to get over the slump in sales or whatever is slowing you down.
You need to celebrate each others successes by sending congratulatory e-cards or sending a small gift. Whenever you reach a goal it is fun to recieve a reward - It helps you stay motivated.
Take the time to find and have a great "goal buddy" and you both will be quickly onto reaching your goals.

Will Your Home Business Fail?

With so many people starting their own home based business it is common for some of them to fail ,but why do they fail?
Many home businesses fail because they are burdened down with so much detail work they do not follow up or follow through. Sometimes ,if you get busy you might lose records or forget to call customers back. You need to make sure that you have good follow up skills and to keep files and records of everything. You do not want to lose the number of that important customer or hostess.
You might fail if you assume that the sale ends with the delivery of the item. You need to build relationships with your customers. You need to follow up with the customer to see if they are satisfied and handle any problems right away. Keep in touch with them every so often to see if there is anything else they need.
You might fail if you offer bargains instead of quality. Sometimes if the price is too low then the "perceived value" from the customer will be low ,too. If you items are of great value then the price should reflect that.
Get to know your competition! They might give you their overflow of hostesses when they are too busy! Whatever you do , don't badmouth the competition.
Do not wait for the phone to ring. Keep looking for new ways to get the word out about your service.
Ask your existing customers for referrals. Give them rewards when they recommend you. When you get a new hostess give them a small gift. Remember word of mouth is your best advertisement!!!

Fax That is Easy To Use
Having a home based business or a small business you most likely will have to use fax software sometime or another. This one that I have found is very easy to use and manage. They make it so easy and you can easily fax over your IP. This reduces your cost and makes your business run more smoothly and faster.
I just really like the fax server that they use and you can have unlimited user accounts. You can also keep track of user access with this. Create domain that will help you organize your business groups.
All of the faxes can be converted to any type of document, like html, image files, PDF, and text. And all of this can be done without downloading any 3rd party software.
One thing that I noticed , that will come in handy, is that is designed to work easily with Outlook Express. That will really make your work a lot easier and quicker. Imagine how much you can get done with this. You can even receive fax in your Outlook client.
If you are looking for a way to streamline your small or home based business, you have got to look into getting this. This will save you money and time.

TT#16 - 13 Ideas For Creating & Finding Your Niche

This weeks Thursday Thirteen is geared toward someone who wants to start a home based business that is unique and in a different niche that will get you the most!!
A Niche is something that sets your business apart from others. To compete with others ,especially online, you need to create a unique niche.
Here are 13 ideas for creating niches~~
1. Your niche could be that you offer free shipping. To begin it might seem like you are not making any money this way ,but you will soon see that you have alot of repeat customers and new ones coming in everyday.
2. Your niche could be that your prices are always the lowest. Check out your competition and then always be a few cents lower.
3. Your niche could be that your products achieve results faster than others.
4. Your niche could be that you have been in business for a longer time. This gives you more credibility and your customers will trust you more.
5. Your niche could be that your item taste, smells, looks or feels better. This is really important if you are in a food business.
6. Your niche could be that your item is smaller and is lighter. People going on trips would like to take your item because it is easy to pack and tote.
7. Your niche could be that your business or product has won awards! Make sure you tell others about it and place it on your webpage.
8. Your niche could be that your item will last longer and is better made.
9. Your niche could be that your product is easier to use or your webpage is easier to use and quicker.
10. Your niche could be your products safety features.
11. Your niche could be that your product is hand made.
12. Your niche could be that you stand behind your products and offer guarantees, warranties, and / or free replacements.
13. You niche could be that your item is always custom made and or personalized just for the customer. This means that your item has the personal touch and you are hands on with your customer/client.

10 Ways to Reduce Your Home Based Business Costs
1. BARTER
If you have a business you should be bartering goods and services form other businesses.
2. NETWORK
Try networking your business with other businesses. You could trade leads. This will cut down on your marketing and advertising costs.
3. WHOLESALE OR BULK
You will save alot of money if you buy in bulk or at wholesale. You can get memberships at wholesale clubs or buy your supplies at a mailorder wholesaler .
4. FREE STUFF
Try finding the stuff you use at one of the many freebie sites before you buy it. You can find free graphics, software, and other business needs.
5. BORROW OR RENT
If you are in the need of some business equipment for a very short time than tey to borrow it or you could rent it.
6. ONLINE AUCTIONS
You can find many business supplies at online auctions (like ebay) for low prices. You can sometimes get your supplies for next to nothing!! I get ink for my printer off of ebay for 2.99 and with free shipping!!!!! That is a huge savings!
7. PLAN AHEAD
Make a list of business supplies you need in the future and keep it with you so when you are out shopping and see something that you use all of the time on sale you can go ahead and buy it before you are out of the item.
8. USED STUFF
You do not have to have new supplies on some stuff. You can get office furniture at thrift stores or yard sales. and you can sometimes find other business supplies also.
9. NEGOTIATE
Try to negotiate a lower price for any business equipment or supplies. I go to kentucky alot to buy some of my items and at one office supply store I told them I had come from out of town and they gave me a 15% discount. I do not know why ,but it was cool and from now on I always mention that I came for out of town.
10. SEARCH
Aways be searching for new suppliers with better products and lower prices.

Searching For Home Based Businesses Online
You really have to be careful when looking for a home based business online. There are a lot of scams out there. If the home based business that you have found online sounds to good to be true, than it most likely is not a good one. Do not waste your money on home based businesses where you have to pay them before they even tell you what the business is. Like ,for example, you see them all of the time online where they have one page where all of these people are telling you how much money they have made with a program. Have you noticed they do not even tell you how they make the money. There is always a buy now button and if you pay they will send you a "report" telling you how they made millions!! Do not do it! You have to be very careful and diligent in your online search for a home based business. There are many good ones out there. If you take the time to search you will find them. Just be careful and do not waste your money on huge promises!

WAHM Cleaning & Organizing Advice

If you are like me and are a work at home mom than you know how hard it is to keep your house clean and work out of it. My house seems like it is just full of clutter . So my one piece of advice is to tackle small projects each day. One day I will do the kitchen , the next the living room, one day is laundry, and so on. I dust and vaccuum every other day. Make sure you wipe down the bathroom everyday so that it is easier to deep clean. Do beds every saturday morning because my kids can help. I set aside one day a week just for organizing. We have a coat rack by the back door so we alwyas know where out coats are. There is a huge basket there also for bookbags. Kids have a certain place by the microwave where all of their school papers go that we need to see or sign. Each kid has their own laundry hamper in their room. I usually am not as busy in the winter as I am in the spring and summer. Because I have a huge garden I also tend to in the spring and summer. So I will have to set time aside for that. But my kids are home in the summer and help with that. My work stuff is kept totally away from the rest of the house. If you plan and set goals you should be able to keep your house clean and organized and still get work done !

Heads Or Tails - Most Memorable Gift!
Wow! This is my 6th Heads or Tails and it was an easy one for me. I can remember my best Christmas like it was yesterday!! I think I was about 6 or 7 and I wanted a bike so bad. I can remember how it felt to want a bike and how I would sit on my front porch and watch the other kids in the neighborhood riding around on their bikes. They looked like they were having so much fun and were so much bigger than me. I just ached so bad for a bike. Well Christmas came around and I went and told every Santa I seen at malls and stores that I wanted a bike for Christmas. I can still feel the feeling I had when I went to bed on Christmas eve! I was just laying in bed crying. I just knew that I had to have a bike. I do not know how I fell asleep , but I did and when I woke up the next morning , I just laid in bed for a little bit, hoping. I finally got up enough nerve and went running into the dining room where the tree was and I just about fainted. It was better than I ever could have imagined!! A bright pink Sweet Thunder Huffy bike was sitting in my house! MY HOUSE!! "Could this be real?" I kept asking myself. I was so overwhelmed by the perfect bike that I totally did not realize all of the other gifts! I had a huge Christmas that year - I got every single thing that I had been wanting. My dad made me a huge doll house , that my mom had then decorated, I also got some new Barbies. But the one gift that I wanted so bad was the bike!! I got the perfect bike that year and I rode it every where when I was a kid. I felt so grown up. I am actually getting teary eyed now as I write this 30 years later!

Make the most of your business!
If you have a small home based business you might be sitting on a gold mine and not even realize it. Almost every business has potential for growth! There are so many ways for your small business to grow - Here are just a few examples ~
1. Find Follow-up products - For example - if you make sweaters for dogs you can also offer shampoo for them or leashes that match. You make and sell candles than get some candle holders wholesale or some fancy lighters. You get the idea.
2. Always be learning new skills. If you make candles now ,try learning to make soaps.
3. Always be searching for new customers. Join local groups, go to local sports events, and so on. Meet as many new people as you can. If people recognize you and like you than they will most likely want to do business with you. Don't push you business when it isn't appropriate, but do let everyone know what you do. This is great advice for direct sellers or party plan reps.
4. Reward good turns! If one of your customers referred you to a great sale or customer give them something to show your appreciation.
5. Take great care of your customers. Find out what they need and listen to what they say. If you have not heard from a customer in a while follow-up with them. Just call them and ask how everything is . You do not have to push your business ,but it does help to let them know you are still around and still doing business.

WAHM's Find More Time

I am a WAHM and I find that I am too busy to get everything done all of the time. There is never enough time in the day! But I found some tricks that people who use their time efficiently.
Keep a log of how you use your time for the next few weeks. Watch for when you spent too much time doing something or did not use your time efficiently. If you do this ,than you will quickly see where you are losing time and be able to fix it.
Have shorter conversations. Keep track of how long you are on the phone. Are you spending too much time on a phone conversation that could be done a lot quicker?
Learn to say "I've got to go". Let them know that you have a lot of work to do and that you have to go. When you work at home it is so easy to get caught up with phone calls and messages from family and friends ,but let them know how you feel about it and when you do your work and that you will call them when you are done.
Try to make appointments with EVERYONE ! This way you have a plan and can figure out your time and can be doing small stuff like stamp envelopes or something while you wait for them.
Do 2 things at once. Always have something to do when you know you will be waiting. Like for example - take order forms to fill out in the waiting room at the doctors etc.
Keep your workspace organized!!!! This is a hard one ,but if you can follow it you will be amazed at how much time you will save. How much time have you lost looking for a phone number or an email address??? I know I have lost a lot of time do that!
Get an answering machine!
Very small changes can make a huge difference. Remember the old saying," TIME IS MONEY!" The most successful people do not have any more time than you do , they have just learned how to use it well and to manage it.

Become A Handbag Critic
This would be an awesome home based business! I love handbags and have way too many! This would be a dream come true for me, to get paid to try out one of my favorite things. A home based business that is right up my alley! Getting paid to shop and then I get to keep the handbags that I "buy". Then all I have to do is use the handbag for a while and then rate it. How cool is that?

It is Written in The Cards
Business cards are a very common way to portray your business image and personality. They are there when you can't be. Because of their size , they are also a great way to network. So you need to design a business card that will be an effective sales and marketing tool, while letting others know about your home based business.
Here are some tips to help you with your business cards:
Be sure to customize your cards to express your home based business personality. Through your business cards you want to gain an edge over the competition. You can very easily customize the look of your cards so that they are not plain and they will show your personality.
Avoid getting flimsy business cards. Since you are usually handing them to others , that is the first thing that will be noticed. Handing out thin, flimsy cards will make them think that you put very little thought into how you want to portray your home based business. High-quality cards will call attention to your home based business.
Maybe add a face to your home based business by adding a photo of yourself. Let others know who is behind the business. This shows a personal touch, letting others know that you will take the time to add your personal touch to everything that you do. Giving you home based business a face lets others know that they can trust you. This will build you long and lasting business relationships.
Use the back of your cards. This is often unused ad space that you could utilize. Don't waste any space. It could carry extra content like coupons, calendar, testimonials, and more.
Use a font that easy to read. Do not use small or very fanciful font. This makes it very hard to read. This will turn off a lot of potential customers.
You do not need to break the bank to get your cards done either. There are many places online where you can get it done for free, all you usually have to pay for is the shipping. If you do find a company that you want to have create your cards for a small cost, see if they can do small orders. You do not want to have to get a huge order of business cards that you will not use or need.
No matter your budget you can create business cards that will put you and your home based business onto the road to profits and success.

Wal-Mart is Killing Us!
Over 70% of products sold at Wal-Mart are shipped from communist China. What's the
result? A long list of injuries, poisoned food, lead-laced toys, and a disturbingly large
list of product recalls. Check it out for yourself, visit:
Wake Up Wal-mart Recalls
When you're shopping this holiday season, remember, think twice before you shop at
Wal-Mart. Unsafe products are never a good deal.

7.GIFTCARDS! Get then ones for Officemax, Staples, and others.
8.If you can take your WAHM out to a fancy restaurant or if you can't get them a gift card to go to one.

Heads Or Tails

This is my first Heads or Tails since I have been back online with my "new" computer. This Heads or Tails I am choosing Heads and going to be writing about "Anything in the sky or space".
Well I can think of many things in the sky, but right now it is my goals that I am focusing on. They are "SKY HIGH". I think that there are no limits to my goals being reached and then easily surpassed. I have been working on this blog for almost a year and have gotten myself so used to the time that I have put into it and the time that I still need to put into it , that I can see me reaching my "SKY HIGH" goals by this time next year. Although I hope that I reach them sooner. I do not want to give up at this. I have 3 kids that are following me and I want them to know that if you have any goal that seems "SKY HIGH" , that it can be reached with hard work and lots of trial and error. Reaching "SKY HIGH" goals is not anything that happens over night and the sooner that anyone with a goal realizes that , they will be that much closer to reaching it.
So , even though the saying is "That the sky is the limit", I am reaching much farther than that!

10 Ways For A WAHM To Have A Successful Day!

10. Pick one task that MUST get done and accomplish it First!
Be sure this is not a multi step task such as submit my advertisement to 100 sites, that could take all day. You want this one task to be something accomplished immediately so when the day falls off track due to your toddler helping themselves to the permanent markers, you know you've gotten something productive done in your business.
9. Take a 10 minute break EVERY hour.
You wouldn't believe how happy your kids will be when you take 10 minutes to fully devote to them. Set up a new game or activity, color, play tag. Get them on a roll. Your next 50 minutes of working will be filled with laughter.
8. Make snacks FUN!
Nobody likes graham crackers in a bowl everyday. A little effort into snacks can bring smiles. How about strawberries cut on a plate, cool whip with drizzled chocolate syrup. Takes less than 5 minutes and your children will WANT to sit at the table.
7. Use the Crockpot.
During morning snack time, while the kids are at the table with their fancy snack. Throw some meat in the crockpot, add some spices, put the veggies on the table or in the crock. Dinner will be ready in 15 minutes after your long day working at home.
6. Let's get Physical.
Don't forget kids have a ton of energy and you need to help them use it up. During your 10 minute breaks, be sure at least 3 of those are physically tiring activities. Besides you'll get your 30 minutes of exercise in for the day!
5. Use a Timer.
This is both for you and the kids. A large kitchen timer that counts down 50 minutes at a time. Even the littlest of toddlers will recognize the beep and realize it's Mommy time! You can set it again for 10 minutes which will remind you and your children its time for Mommy's work. This will keep your day flowing without losing track.
4. Take One day OFF a week.
Places such as museums and zoos are less crowded during the week. Take the day off, pack the kids a lunch and GO! You'll be refreshed and more productive the next day. You won't believe how many new ideas you can come up with when you walk away from the computer for more than a minute. Plus, your kids will probably go to bed early from the outing, you'll be able to check your emails in peace.
3. Don't forget your Friends.
We have many different roles to play once we become Mommy. Most of the time we forget to be a friend to our peers. Not just our other Mommy friends that we met because of our kids, but the friends that we don't talk to all the time or make playdates with. Call the friend that you only see once and a while. Have lunch and an adult conversation.
2. Take Time for Yourself
It's o.k. to read a book that doesn't talk about marketing strategies. Spend 10 extra minutes in the shower and actually dry off before you get dressed. Instead of making everyone's favorite dinner, order out your favorite meal. You'll be a better person to everyone when you take time for yourself.
1. Remember why You Choose To Stay Home!
When your frustration level is increasing, you can't get anything done, your toddler just hit delete on the article you were writing and the dog is barking....enjoy it. This is why you are home. Step away from your work, take a deep breath, take time to get the house rythym back and then worry about work. You're home to love your kids when they need it most, take advantage of the opportunity to handle challenging times, this is why you're a WAHM!

Money From Mistletoe?
This time of year you can come up with all kinds of seasonal ways to make some extra money at home for Christmas gifts or whatever. This is a great time of year to make wreaths, sew holiday items, bake items to sell, and more. I found some info about this seasonal home based business in one of my Mother Earth News magazines and thought it was a unique way to make some extra money for the holidays.
Mistletoe is such a popular holiday symbol that you could easily make some extra dough for the holidays. You might even be lucky enough and be able to find it in your area growing and be able to gather it for free. Mistletoe (genus - Phoradendron) has a distinctive ball like cluster of yellow-green foliage that nestles between the bare branches of deciduous trees. It likes to appear on Oak and sometimes other hardwoods like Sycamore, Maples, Walnuts, and Elms. They sometimes grow high in the trees though. Make sure that you have permission to remove the Mistletoe.
Only harvest as much as you can sell quickly. Package them in small clusters that are easy to hang in a doorway for the holiday kiss. Tie them with a festive bow. Actually this time of year you will find that the sky is the limit and you can charge as much as you want to charge. Try and do some research and see how much others are selling it for and go with that. Sometimes it depends on where you are at and where you are selling it.
Whatever ways you decide to sell it and package it , you will find that you will make some extra money for the holidays and also helped others have a more festive holiday.
Do not forget to keep a bundle for your own home!!

Start A Sudsy Pampered Pets Business

A lot of dedicated pets owners love to pamper their pets, just as most parents pamper their children. Pet supplies and treats sales generate billions of dollars per year; rather it's healthy dog food for your puppy or playful toys for your kitty.
There are a lot of people making money from home selling dog treats, cat condominiums and other products that can be made in ones home.
One product that is not sold on grocery and department store shelves, that pet owner's love, is all natural pet soap. This is a niche that is in high demand for dog owners, with very little competition.
You could start a pet soap business quickly and easier, using materials purchased at just about any grocery store. You could then sell your soaps to area stores, pet gift basket businesses and local pet owners.
There are many types of molds that can be used when making homemade soaps. You can sell bars that are a basic rectangular shape, or you could get a paw shaped mold and sell puppy paws soap. Another fun way to shape your pet soaps would be to use molds shaped like food. A T-Bone shaped soap would be a novelty gift that would bring joy to any recipient.
A full line of pet soaps could be created, offering basic affordable bars for every day baths, to expensive soaps made with exotic oils for pet shows and special occasions.
To create gift sets of your soaps, you could make bubble bath out of the soaps as well (just grate the soap with any cheese grater, add water and simmer on low heat until a thick liquid). Packaging a bar of soap with a bottle of bubble bath and a pet towel makes a wonderful gift for Holidays and pet birthdays. Or why not add something more. Why not include a dog biscuit to clean dog's teeth, and you will have a complete bath in a box set sure to delight pets and their owners alike.
This is a business opportunity that you could start this week, with little start-up cost. You can turn regular olive oil into a bar of pure beauty that will make dogs drool as their owner washes the silkiness all over their fur.

Thinking of Starting an Online Home Business? Start with a Blog!
Who hasn't heard of a blog these days? In a nutshell, a blog is a web page that is made up of posts frequently updated. A blog can be much more than that simple definition implies, however. If you are starting a business with a small budget and little experience, then starting with a blog is an excellent way to get going quickly.
As soon as you sign up with a blogging service, you can begin to put your thoughts, marketing, articles and related web page links out to the world by publishing them on your blog. This is especially great for affiliate marketing. You can sign up with affiliate programs that complement the blog theme, and then put various content, links, banners and products on the blog. When visitors click on these links and purchase a product, you are paid a commission for getting the sale. Compared to building an entire website for the same purpose, starting into affiliate marketing with a blog couldn't be easier.
Another benefit of choosing to start a home online business with a blog is that it is a whole lot cheaper than building a web site. Many blogging services are free, so compare that to buying a domain name and paying for the cost of designing a web site and you can quickly see the advantages. Add to that the monthly cost of web site hosting and the cost starts adding up real quick. A blog is a great alternative until the money starts coming in from your business.
A major advantage of starting a home business online with a blog is the fact that little if any technical knowledge is required to blog. There is no need to learn html or programming because the software is already there for you to use. Also most successful marketers agree that to get traffic to your site you must update the content often and consistently. With a blog you can add or update the content whenever your want without hiring someone else to do it for you.
Lastly, using a blog to jump into the online home business arena will give you an edge over the people who use a traditional website to market their business. Blog content is real-time and can be updated in a blink. Visitors can make comments or ask questions, and leave testimonials.
Blogging has become a viable alternative for online home business beginners who want to start making money at home but have little startup funds or lack in website building experience. Blogs are usually indexed quicker than webpages, and as a result, a newbie can start getting traffic and generate income quicker than through other online means. Do not overlook using a blog to bring traffic to your home business product or service.
