We spend a lot of time at home and never really seem to take into mind that we need a nice comfortable place to sleep that has comfortable bedding. We need to make sure that our bedroom is a calming place and a place where we do not do any work , just a place to relax and get away from it all. Since we are working at home , we have to have a place where we can go and just take a breather and get a great nights sleep. A place that has soothing decor and bedding so that we can just fall into bed and forget what we have been working on in the other room. Leave your bedroom as an oasis where your not seeing anything but a place to relax. Surround yourself with fabrics that are in soothing colors that will take you away from all of the work at home stuff. You need your bedroom to be the one place in your home where there is a calming influence and nights that offer you great rejuvenating sleep. So when you get up in the morning you are able to do all of your work and all of your housework, plus run around after your kids. Than at night be able to relax again. Almost like a mini vacation!

Sunday Seven

This is my very first Sunday Seven and I want to share 7 different things that I thankful for being able to work at home.

1. I am always home when my teenagers come home from school.

2. I am able to stay at home with my new little boy ,who is now 1 year old.

3. I am able to do crafts.

4. I do a ton of baking that I could not do when I worked outside the home.

5. My kids and hubby always have a hot meal waiting for them when they get home.

6. I can work when I want to and take days off of work if I want to .

7. I am able to listen to what I want to on the radio, I listen to KLOVE all of the time.

Get A Rush From Blog Rush?!

I have seen so many others blogging about this and I cannot understand why everyone is in an uproar about it. If it gets you more traffic? If it doesn't get you more traffic? Since Blog Rush is free what does it matter if you give it a chance? It can't hurt you. I will have to say that since I placed the Blog Rush widget on this blog that I have noticed a huge increase in traffic and my Google Adsense stats have gone up by double. I cannot say for sure if it is because of Blog Rush or not, but since the widget is free ,it does not matter to have it on here. I will keep it on here and just see what happens over the long run.

What is on Your Desk Right Now??

Right now I am looking at a pretty plain desk. Actually it is not even a desk. It is an extra kitchen table that we had that is a smaller one. All that is on it is my desktop computer, my dsl modem, my son's external hard drive, and the speakers. I want to make my "desk" a little bit more personal and I think that I have found a way to do that. A digital photo frame! By using these awesome digital picture frame. Since all of us have digital cameras this is a really great way to showcase our photos of our kids, family, vacation, and more. Simply Take a photo or movie, switch your memory card to the digital frame, and view. I think that digital picture frame would make awesome gifts ,too. What a perfect gift to give for a wedding, new baby, or anything else that you can think of. My daughter is getting ready to go to college so I think that a digital photo frame might be a great idea for a gift for her. They have plenty of sizes and styles to choose from. It does not seem like they are to hard to use either. I really think this would be a great way to pretty up any desk.

TT#4 - 13 Different Gift Basket Ideas

I want to share on my blog ways for other moms ( and dads ) to make money at home and I have noticed that starting a gift basket business is a really great way to start a low cost home based business. You can either make them to sell or you can make customized ones that people put in "orders" for.

Here is my fourth edition of Thursday Thirteen and it is :

13 Different Gift Basket Ideas

(Make customized gift baskets as a home based business!)

1. A New Baby ~ Welcome to the World Gift Basket! You can make it for either boy or girl. Place stuffed animal, baby soaps and shampoos, a parenting magazine or book, some toiletries for mom, rattle, bottles, pacifier, and more. The possibilities are endless.

2. A gardener's gift basket ~ YOu could use a gift basket for this one or like some that I have seen that use large terre-cotta flower pots! Include seeds, garden tools, garden gloves, gardener's hand soap, maybe a garden tip book, and more.

3. Gourmet "That's Italian" gift basket - Use a enamel colander for the container. Place gourmet pasta, sun-dried tomatoes, oregano, italian cookbook, and so on.

4. House Warming Gift Basket! Use an old fashion wooden toolbox for the container and add a hammer, picture hooks, flashlight, night light, a small plant, maybe a small bottle of champagne and 2 glasses, and so on.

5. Some Like it Hot ~ You could use a red metal bucket for the container and place bloody mary drink mix, tabasco sauce, spicy snack mix, 5 alarm chili mix, hot crackers, spicy beef jerky, and so on.

6. Anti-stress survival kit ~ You could use a decorative hat box for this one and place candles, bubble bath, bath oil, aromatherapy products, chocolates, and so on.

7. Coffee Break gift basket ~ Use a great looking oversized coffee mug and place some gourmet coffee in it with some chocolates, and so on.

8. BOn Voyage gift basket ~ Add toy ship and rubber duck, games, cookies,snacks, chocolates, a travel book, and so on.

9. Home on the range gift basket ~ Use a straw cowboy hat and place bandana ,western book, mini souvenir branding iron, salsa with chips, chili spices, and so on. Tie the gift basket up using a bolo tie.

10. Way Down South gift basket ~ Use an old fashioned iron skillet and place jambalaya mix, red beans and rice, tabasco sauce, cajun cookbook, tape of cajun music, and so on. Tie the package up with mardi gras beads.

11. East Coast Basket ~ Use a lobster trap and place stuffed lobster toy, cookbook, chowder mix, and other regional food items, and so on.

12. New Job gift basket ~ Heavy cardboard file box that you can cover with decorative paper and place pencils, pencil sharpener, pens, post-it notes, small sewing kit, mini office first aid kit, special coffee mug, energy bars, mints, and so on.

13. FIrst Day of spring gift basket ( take this idea and change it for every season!!) - Use a metal watering can for this one and place live plant starts in it , seeds, gardening tools, gardener's handsoap, and so on. First day of winter you could use a big basket and add an afghan, gloves, socks, scarf, book, hot chocolate and mug, etc etc

Pros and Cons of Working at Home

In most cases people who are eager to spend most of their time enjoying the comforts of home choose to work from home. People also opt for free work at home jobs to earn an extra income fulfill various needs, personal as well as professional.

There are many ways to make money with free work at home jobs. You can start your own home based business, work with an existing business firm, run online auctions, freelance for any company, do data entry jobs, get paid for online surveys and so on.

Working at home is no doubt beneficial but can be problematic too. Some of the pros and cons of working at home are listed below.

Pros:

· Comfortable location
Daily commuting from home to office and vice versa is cumbersome and expensive for some people. If there is space enough in ones house to make an office space to maintain some amount of privacy then there is nothing better than that. This way you can share a lot of time with your family which is usually not possible with a regular 12 hour office job.

· Flexibility
You can figure out your own working hours and do not have to follow a strict nine-to-five schedule. You can take breaks whenever you want and continue working till you are satisfied. There is extreme freedom as far as dress code is concerned. You can be as comfortable as possible and be your own boss.

· Savings
You can cut down on your fuel expenses and save money by working at home. Car maintenance charges are also reduced as a result. If you are working for a private company from home they will also furnish the equipments required for your work and no question of expenditure on your part.

· Other reasons
There are people who experience less stress working from home. They can control and concentrate on their work without the interference of colleagues and the boss. Health problems can also be solved by working from home.

Cons:

· Isolation from social life - If you are working at home you are dissociated from the rest of your coworkers. Working alone can at times be very boring and time consuming. You might not be able to solve many work problems without helping hands. The lack of social interaction can lead to depression and other psychological problems which would hamper your work.

· Limited Options -
You cannot work from home if your work does not permit you to do so. For instance, if you are involved in the field of public relations, communication with people is indispensable for you. You cannot choose to work from your home in such a situation. So the type of work is a primary condition to be able to work from home.

· Equipment expenditure -
If your office does not provide you the equipments required for your work at home, it can increase your expenses. This can be problematic for people who do not have enough savings to incur this cost. You need a proper space in your house to set up an office because a minimum privacy is required for work. If that is not available it is even more expensive to set up a small work space in your house.

· No regular income -
If your work is project based then you might not receive monthly pay checks. Your financial condition has to be extremely well to maintain your finances in such a scenario.

· Fraud -
You might not be trusted completely by your clients since you are working from home. Your sincererity might be under surveillance. This would hamper your professional image to your clients.

· Distractions -
If you have children they can be the cause of distractions during your working hours. Visitors can also disturb you while you work. You cannot avoid such sources of disturbance when you are working at home.

· Discipline -

You need a great deal of self discipline, energy, dedication and financial stability to work from home successfully.

An Experiment!

I have gotten this blog to where I work on it daily and have some readers and the such. I have always wanted it to be about working at home and online. I always wanted to share ways for you to do that. I am going to do a little bit of an experiment and I have started a new blog where I will post more random items about being a work at home mom. More like a diary! I will be using It is called Qumana on it only and Q-Ads. That is the experiment. I want to see how much can be made with Q-ads. All of my other blogs use Google Adsense which does awesome.

Qumana

I am going to give this a try. It is called Qumana and you can publish posts to your blogs very easy. Also if you are on dialup than you can work on your blogs offline and then upload all of your work the next time you are on. You can also sign up with Qads and have the ads automatically added to your posts. The Qads are kind of like Google Adsense. If you do not use Google Adsense than this would be the way to go.

Try It is called Qumana it is free. It is easy to use and get set up with all of your blog information.

I am going to try it out just so that I do not have to keep signing into blogger. I will keep you up to date as to how this works out for me.

TT#3 - 13 Money Making Crafts

This is my 3rd issue of Thursday Thirteen and I hope that you enjoy it.

13 Money Making Crafts

1. Make candles! This is a great seller anywhere. Everyone seems to love scented candles. You can make them and sell them online or at craft fairs. You could even sell them at a local indoor flea market.

2. Make Soaps! Another great money maker that is not too hard to do. Sell them just like you would the candles. For my readers I am giving away this ebook for FREE - The Art of Manufacturing Soaps and Candles! Bath and Body Recipes has tons of recipes that you can use to make soaps, bath bombs, and more.

3. Make gourmet doggie and kitty treats. With the recent recalls of pet treats this would make a great item to make and sell. Package them and come up with a great name . Pretty low cost start-up! For the readers of my blog I am giving away these great 2 ebooks - Doggie Treat Recipes and Kitty Treat Recipes. They will help you get started.

4. Sew baby items! You can sew cloth diapers, slings and carriers, and baby toys. There is a huge amount of baby items that you can sew to sell. This would be a great way to make extra money. Make home made cloth diapers and baby accessories. You could make cloth diapers, covers for the diapers, baby carriers, stuffed animals, and baby blankets. This would be an awesome money making home based business to start. You could make starter packs of the diapers that have like 2 of each size and covers. You could make gift baskets that have cloth diapers, covers, lotion, diaper cream, etc. And with the popularity of cloth diapers now you would really make alot of money. You could even sell them on ebay.

5. Make aprons out of reproduction vintage fabrics! Repro Depot Fabrics has some really great fabrics. Go to Apronista for some great looks.

6. Make jewelry! You could make a lot of money with this. Make a few unique items for starters and maybe give them as gifts and then when someone asks them where they got their great piece ,they will say that you made it and she makes more.

7. Make gifts in a jar!! This is a great and easy item to make. You use ball mason jars that are used for canning. For my readers I am giving this great FREE ebook that is full of "recipes" and ideas for gifts in a jar - Great Gifts in a Jar you can also get some awesome ideas at All Free Crafts


8. Make wedding favors. This is something that could be profitable. Get your name around by giving your business card to local bridal shops, hair salons, and more. To my readers I am giving this FREE ebook full of ideas for some wedding favors - Wedding Favors.


9. Make hand crafted handbags! Make your own creative handbags that you can sell online or at craft fairs. They are very easy to make and you can get as wild as you want. Here are a few that I have made with no patterns.






10. Make things out of old blue jeans like quilts, pillows, handbags, and more. Teddy bears are really cute made from old jeans. You can go on and on with the ideas. Possibilities are endless. Here are 13 things you can make out of old blue jeans .

11. Start your own t-shirt company. Get plain t-shirts at wholesale and create your own designs to put on them on your computer. Sell them at consignment stores or online.

12. Make craft kits! This is a really cool idea - why not make the kits so that others can make the crafts. Great for kids crafts. Place everything in the kit that they will need to make something and sell it like that.

13. With vintage clothing being all the rage why not go to your local thrift store and get a few vintage patterns of some vintage dresses and whatever and make them up to sell online. Pretty cool. And like with the aprons listed above you can get reproduction vintage fabric to use.

Storage Ideas For Home Business

I can think of a ton of uses for storage bins for a home based business. My dream would be to take our shed and turn it into an office for me to do all of my work and crafts in. Home Business Selling Handmade Crafts

You CAN sell your handmade crafts. A simple home business is possible. Follow the five steps below and watch your craft sales soar.

Step #1 - PASSION. Passion drives a person. Passion shines through in your work. Passion keeps you keeping on when all others have given up. You don't just like making your craft. You have a fire-in-the-belly passion. You love making this craft so much that you can't stop making it no matter what.

If you don't have passion for your handmade craft, don't make it for selling. Without passion you will give up on your home business and craft too soon. You will produce an item of so-so quality and you will learn to hate this craft and be unhappy. And THAT will show in your work. Have PASSION for your handmade craft or don't sell.

Step #2 - QUALITY. Not just good quality, but superb quality. Take your craft a step farther. Make it better than the rest. People recognize quality and will pay more. Sure they'll buy the cheap ones, but they will be disappointed and buy quality the next time. It may cost more to produce but what you gain in reputation is well worth the extra money.

If you want your home business in it for the long haul, reputation is EVERYTHING! Soon a handmade craft with your name on it will command better prices than any others similar to it. Nothing beats QUALITY.

Step #3 - UNIQUENESS. You are a unique individual and your handmade craft should have a little touch of your personality. Study the work of top artists in your craft to see their uniqueness and you will find a way to add your style. Never do exactly what others are doing. Don't make it so different that "bizarre" comes to mind when they see your craft because most people don't want weird. Just add your own curve here, or a different color there, make it brighter or darker, etc.

Are you a happy person? Studious? Meticulous? What part of you goes into your work? Find a way to let people know it's your creation. Make your home business and craft stand out with UNIQUENESS.

Step #4 - TARGETING. Research, research, research until you identify and understand your target market. This is the hardest step but once you know your customers, you will save yourself a lot of time and grief. People, who are not interested in your craft, are not going to buy.

Millions of people search ebay and you can look there to see if your craft item sells. But don't get discouraged if you don't see it there. Lots of items sell well offline but not online. And bargain hunters abound on ebay. You might not get a fair price for your handmade craft item. Use ebay as a marketing research tool. It's great for testing the waters and sometimes you actually get a great price for your craft.

Search out that target market at every opportunity. Your local community probably has more opportunities than you could ever imagine for your home business. TARGETING makes selling so much easier.

Step #5 - PERSISTENCE. Be relentless. If you do the first four steps, persistence will pay off. Always keep moving forward. Learn more about your craft than anyone else (passion really keeps you going here) and keep searching for those targeted customers.

Persevere through rejections. Learn from them, adjust, and make steady progress. This is why passion is step #1 for your home business to succeed. If your passion wanes, your persistence will, too. Without PERSISTENCE, selling your handmade craft will be a very short term endeavor.

Now that you have Passion, Quality, Uniqueness, Targeting, and Persistence for your home business, you can start counting the money from the sale of your handmade craft. Good luck and happy crafting.

The Reason I Work at Home Turns One Today!!
